Yes, and the newer the computer, the better the performance. There are two types of ADSL modems: internal and external. Internal modems are circuit cards that are installed inside your computer and are usually referred to as a PCI DSL modem. TSTT will be providing external ADSL modems / routers. If your PC has a USB port, Windows 98 or later and CD-ROM drive, you can use an Alcatel Speed Touch modem provided by TSTT. To facilitate Internet sharing, customers' PCs must be networked. If your PC has a 10 Base T Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC), you can use a TSTT provided 3COM 612 router. Internet sharing is achieved by connecting an Ethernet hub directly to the 3COM 612 router or by the networking of customers' PCs. Professional modem / router configuration required to support networks or servers can be provided for an additional fee.
Unlike voice services, ADSL service does not provide any voltage to keep your ADSL modem / router working in the case of a power failure. So yes, whereas you will still be able to make and receive phone calls, to connect to the Internet, you will need a UPS for your ADSL modem / router and computer.
